|Implementation of Project to Strengthen judicial Capacity starts|

The Council of Europe, in cooperation with the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Justice Ministry, the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors and the Ombudsman, has started implementing the project “Increasing judicial capacity to safeguard human rights and combat ill-treatment and impunity”. The Council of Europe’s Daniel Schmidt, who heads the of Southeast Europe and Turkey Unit, said at Thursday’s opening of the project the goal was to strengthen the Constitutional Court in terms of more effectively implementing the European human rights standards in cases when an individual complaint was filed, as well as to improve trainings for judges and prosecutors in order for there to be better implementation of human rights standards at a national level. The project is envisaged to last until May 2018. It is funded by the EU and will be implemented by the Council of Europe.
