“Macedonia is not a final destination for migrants but it advanced the asylum law,” Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski said on Thursday. In his view, Macedonia’s regulation is in accordance with all international legal standards. “It’s about a quality legal framework, founded on respect for the existing domestic regulation, but also on our obligations arising from the declared pledge for full EU integration. In the period ahead, that legal framework needs to result in the adoption of a series of by-laws and other acts that will need to ensure institutional operability and functionality of the law, systemic implementation of its, multi-institutional action, but also an increase of the degree of regional and international cooperation,” the Minister pointed out. The experts believe that even though the Balkan route no longer exists, alternative ones have been detected. Attempts to illegally cross the border are still present.
