Janeva: I have never abused My Official Position in SPO

The Head of the Special Public Prosecution (SPO) Katica Janeva issued an official reaction to the publication of recordings by Italian newspaper “La Verita” and journalist Laris Gaiser related to the “Racketeering” case. The audio recordings indicate to involvement of Janeva in the case, while the video recording reveals suspects Bojan Jovanovski and Zoran Mileski leaving the house of businessman Orce Kamcev, who is witness in “Racketeering” case, with a bag with 1.5 million euros in cash. “I am seriously shocked with how my activities as Special Prosecutor are in any way linked to the suspects and their activities in the “Racketeering” case. As a Special Prosecutor, it is my obligation to contact people who are suspects in cases SPO processes, in order to attempt to draw from them more information about further investigations and cases SPO could open. I have spoken to several suspects from cases our Prosecution processes, and I have never in no way abused my position as Special Prosecutor, nor have I traded with my influence. SPO is about to finalise and present around 10 new investigations and cases which I believe will make some things much more clear. Those cases involve many former and current state officials, which is why I believe many people participate in this smear campaign against me and my function. Because of this, I call upon the judicial authorities to resolve the “Racketeering” case as soon as possible,” Janeva writes in her statement.
