Political Reactions to Post-Kocani Fire Situation Continue

In a press-release on Tuesday, the Government said those injured in the Kocani fire and families of those killed in the tragedy were not alone.

“We have said that our obligation, in addition to a complete investigation and fully shedding light on the case and bringing all involved to justice, is to provide appropriate health protection and medical assistance for all injured and their families”, it pointed out.

In that regard, the Government pointed to its activities following the fire, including the providing of funds for transport of patients, launched phone line for direct communication with PM Hristijan Mickoski, and decision to enable the Ponikva resort to be used for recovery by those injured.

“The Government will do everything within its competence to help and try to ease the pain. We adopt concrete measures in the interest of citizens”, it said as well.

The same day, however, SDSM accused Mickoski of being hypocritical and arrogant towards not only the parents of those killed in the fire, but also towards all citizens still in shock since the tragedy.

“At a party rally, in the evening, he does his level best to label the parents as party instruments. However, as early as the following morning, he tries to justify them by using empty phrases and declarative “support”. Obviously, Mickoski is lost in his own rhetoric, without a compass, without stability, in constant internal crisis. When he saw that he was not achieving anything by using threats, he turned to manipulation and asking for understanding”, the opposition party noted.

According to VMRO-DPMNE, however, SDSM is making unfounded accusations.

Also, the ruling party stated that said the opposition party’s Spokesperson, Bogdanka Kuzeska, should call on institutions to open an investigation against her party leader, ex-Health Minister Venko Filipce, over the 2021 Tetovo hospital fire and the matter concerning the sale of coal case.
