“They are blocking a law they negotiated for months. A law in which we accepted everything they proposed. The only thing we asked for is for the diaspora to be able to vote electronically as early as the next presidential elections. First they accepted it, and today they are blocking it and looking for weak alibi-arguments”, PM Mickoski said on social media on Monday, after SDSM had announced it would block the Electoral Code and file 10,000 amendments.
He proposed for the opposition to propose amendments requesting corrections to the method of marking ballots and submitting complaints.
“We will accept them immediately. Withdraw the other amendments and let’s vote the Electoral Code through. Our diaspora has the right to participate electronically in the next presidential elections”, the PM underlined.
Previously, SDSM leader and MP Filipche had said his party’s Parliamentary Group had prepared 10,000 amendments and would block the passage of the Code because, in his view, it contains undemocratic parts that leave room for abuse and control of the election process.
Monday also saw Parliament, with 59 votes in favor, three against, and no abstentions, vote the need to pass the Code changes through, under a shortened procedure.
