President Siljanovska Davkova on EU Integration-related Topics

Regarding the EU path, in Thursday’s interview with Kanal 5, President Siljanovska Davkova stated that she remained an optimist, although under current circumstances and with implemented constitutional changes, there was space for a new veto from Bulgaria due to the 2nd Protocol between the two countries.

According to her, although the EU cannot provide guarantees, it possesses mechanisms to prevent a future veto on identity issues. She stated that there would be a clearer picture of the country’s European future on September 30. Siljanovska Davkova expects the plan of European institutions regarding the course of enlargement to be announced then.

She also touched upon the comments by EU Ambassador Rokas about work being done under the radar.

“It’s true, that’s how it is, I am saying that under the radar, yes, yes. Sometimes, things are not told. If I were not an optimist, I wouldn’t be President, I am an optimist, I believe in good will”, she said.
