After Tuesday’s meeting with his counterpart, Bujar Osmani, in Skopje, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg called for the EU’s negotiations with Skopje and Tirana to start as soon as possible. Schallenberg, who’d previously been in Sofia, said there was progress. That’s why he expressed encouragement that a solution to the problem was becoming closer. He hopes a solution can be reached before the start of the summer. According to Osmani, though North Macedonia doesn’t oppose Bulgarians becoming part of the Constitution and is ready to guarantee all rights, they’ve been also told they should ask for their rights from the country in which they live, not from another one. During his visit, Schallenberg also met PM Dimitar Kovacevski, President Stevo Pendarovski and VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski.
