Macedonian state institutions officially started on Monday activities for removal of the Vergina sun symbol from public surfaces, monuments, plaques etc. This action was agreed upon by Macedonia in the Prespa Agreement which put an end to the naming dispute the country had with Greece. The agreement contains legal obligations which claim that six months after it enters into force, the Macedonian side is obliged to remove the Vergina sun symbol form all public surfaces. The Vergina sun symbol was featured on the first flag used by Macedonia from its independence in 1991 till the adoption of the UN Temporary Agreement over the name dispute with Greece in 1995.
