High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that he shares the views of most of the EU member states that the Western Balkans should once again become the focus of attention of the EU. His response follows the letter addressed to him signed by Foreign Affairs Minister of 9 EU member-states, who warned that the Western Balkans are absent from the official discussions in the EU since December 2020, and expressed concerns with the growing influence of third parties which are providing assistance to the Western Balkans, especially vaccines against COVID-19. “The Western Balkans are among the top priorities of the EU, since the EU is one of their greatest political and trade partners. Henceforth, Borrell shares the opinion of the 9 FMs signatories of the letter addressed to him,” they report from Borrell’s Office, adding that Borrell is ready to open discussions about the Western Balkans at the upcoming meeting of EU FMs in April.
