Bytyqi: There should Be Consensus for Reduction of Officials’ Salaries

According to Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi, for the officials’ salaries to be reduced, there should be consensus from all officials, judges, prosecutors, mayors, directors, all MPs and ministers. “All of them should agree that they want their salaries to be reduced,” he stated on Wednesday.

If not next week, then by the end of the year, the law will be submitted in the frames of the Government. However, Bytyqi added that 61 votes would be needed in Parliament. “Basically, in our society, unfortunately, consensus is hard to achieve on even more important issues, let alone about taking money from the officials’ pockets,” he assessed. The previous day, in an interview with 24 TV, Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi had been asked whether he, as the caretaker PM, would initiate a law to reduce the salaries. Pointing to the Constitutional Court’s decision, he adamantly stated that he wouldn’t do so.
