Constitutional court Dismisses Initiative for Annulling Referendum

With 7 votes “against” and 2 “for”, the Constitutional Court decided that there are no constitutional obstacles regarding the process for announcing the referendum on September 30. The initiative was endorsed and championed by the constitutional court judge, Elena Goseva, proposing a procedure be launched involving the decision to schedule a referendum and to put a timely measure in place halting all activities for a certain period of time. According to her, the decision contains several legal shortcomings. According to the majority of the judges, there is no doubt of the constitutionality and legality of the referendum. The court said, they could not find “any doubt regarding the constitutionality and legality of the disputed decision. The initiative was submitted by the “Levica” and the World Macedonian Congress.
