Continuation of Constitutive Session of Parliament Postponed

The continuation of the constitutive session of the Parliament of Macedonia that was announced for Thursday afternoon did not take place at all. From the Office of the Speaker of the Parliament they reported on Thursday that the continuation of the session depends on whether the MPs manage to submit an initiative with at least 20 MP signatures for appointment of a new Parliament Speaker (PS). According to MPs, the session will probably continue on Friday, once the MPs collect the necessary signatures. Leaders of SDSM and DUI, Zoran Zaev and Ali Ahmeti respectively, confirmed on Wednesday that Talat Xhaferi will be nominated for another mandate as PS. Several media outlets, citing a statement of DUI member Fatmir Limani Beqiri, report that there is alleged dissatisfaction within DUI with the names of the new ministers nominated in the new government. “The new government can only be approved or fail with the permission of Izet Mexhiti. The sabre is in the two fingers of Mexhiti, who is supposed to be the decisive factor putting everyone in their own place,” Beqiri stated. Mexhiti also left early the coordination meetings of the MPs in the Parliament on Thursday without explanation.
