Conversation with MEP and Rapporteur for North Macedonia Kyuchyuk

MEP and Rapporteur for North Macedonia Ilhan Kyuchyuk talks about the blockade from Bulgaria and the EU Summit scheduled for 14 December. “We are all working for a favourable development. Skopje and Sofia exchange information that should bring the two sides together. The agreement reached in 2017 covers a wide range of issues. What needs to be done right now is to build trust. The trust between the two parties is at the absolute lowest level. In order to solve the big obstacles that are in front of us but also the great opportunities that the European Union offers us – we need to regain our trust. The only way to do that is to intensify the conversations. My position is that the start of negotiations is in the interest of Bulgaria and North Macedonia, but also of the European Union. The more this process slows down and North Macedonia does not start negotiations, the more both sides and the EU will lose, and the whole region will have big losses,” Kyuchyuk said.
