Democracy Index 2021: North Macedonia in “Flawed democracies” Group

North Macedonia is in the group of “Flawed democracies” in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index 2021. This year, the country is ranked 73^rd, а jump of five spots, with an overall score of 6.43. According to the criteria, North Macedonia has an above-average score in four of the five categories. Its best score is in the field of Electoral process and pluralism (7.42), while the lowest score is for political culture (3.13). The other three categories are Functioning of government (6.43), Political participation (6.11) and Civil liberties (7.06). According to the document, North Macedonia is one of the countries that significantly improved their positions and progressed from “Hybrid regimes” to “Flawed democracies”.
