Deputy PM Maricic on Constitutional Changes Issue

The dynamism regarding the working group for constitutional changes should be shared by the people within it, but so far, there has not been a topic expanding the set of issues being discussed with regards to constitutional changes, according to Deputy PM for European Affairs Bojan Maricic. “The more strictly we stick to the obligations from the negotiating framework, the better,” he says. Maricic notes that there are enough elements in both the Constitution and Parliament’s conclusion for protection of the language and identity. “So far, we have shown in practice that we protect them appropriately,” he notes. However, Maricic adds that the representatives and experts have a legitimate right to open issues and for there to be topics. “Even the opposition, which didn’t nominate representatives for the group has a legitimate right to be opening these issues. We are ready for dialogue over this topic,” the Deputy PM stresses regarding the issue of whether the changes provide also for some additional changes in the Preamble.
