Though all MPs agree that the census should be a statistical operation, not a political one, the opposition has demands about, as its members point out, a quality process. On the other hand, the ruling majority’s stand is that the census will be in line with the EU’s best standards. SDSM’s Snezana Kaleska-Vanceva says that the census is needed for the development of the fatherland, adding that MPs should be guided by the responsibility towards the country and its citizens. VMRO-DPMNE has submitted 26 amendments to the draft text. Hristijan Mickoski’s party is of the opinion that the document should include not only the fingerprint aspect, but also the methodology in order for there to be a complete picture of the operation and so that there are timely reactions if shortcomings are detected. Parliament will consider the document after New Year’s.
