Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska attended on Wednesday the meeting of Defence Ministers of the NATO member-states, which was held online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. At the meeting, Sekerinska presented the positions of Macedonia concerning the NATO Initiative 2030 for political and military strengthening of the alliance, and welcomed and supported the proposals of NATO Sec Gen Jens Stoltenberg about this initiative. Sekerinska also pointed out that Macedonia is constantly increasing the state budget for the sector of defence and that for 2021 this budget will amount 1.57 % of the state’s GDP, bringing it one step closer to realisation of the NATO pledge for the defence budget to amount 2.5 % of the state’s GDP. She also confirmed that in 2021, 25 % of the budget for the sector of defence will be used for procurement of new equipment and modernisation of the Macedonian Army (ARM).
