At the 88th session, the Government approved the text of the Draft-Law on Control of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, which is harmonized with several international acts. One of the novelties is the establishment of the Agency for Control of Cultivation and Extraction of Cannabis and Production of Cannabis for Medical and Scientific Purposes, which performs its activities on the basis of the principles of legality, expertise, professionalism, responsibility, efficiency and transparency. Another important novelty in the Draft Law on Narcotic Drugs is the obligation of the companies with licenses for cultivation of cannabis for medical purposes to pay funds in the amount of 10% of the net profit realized in the current year on an appropriate account in the Budget of Macedonia. The funds raised in this special account will be used for projects of public interest, such as support for the Rare Diseases Fund, support for the media fund, program priorities in sports, culture, civil society, as well as to support the work of the newly envisaged Agency.
