“Recalling the Council conclusions of July 2022, the Council welcomes the first intergovernmental conference held with North Macedonia in July 2022 and the successful completion of the screening meetings.
The Council stands ready to convene another intergovernmental conference, without further delays nor additional political decision, as soon as North Macedonia has implemented its commitment to complete the constitutional changes as referred to in the Council Conclusions of July 2022, in line with its internal procedures,” the Council of the EU said in its conclusions on enlargement on Tuesday.
After the meeting, Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi stated that the adopted conclusions were fundamental regarding progress of the enlargement policy. Though he expressed satisfaction, he nonetheless added that Union leaders would make the final decision on the enlargement process at the Summit on Thursday and Friday.
