EU Delegation’s Geer Reiterates Reasons for Peer Review Mission over Council

Politics should be removed from the judiciary, the Government and parties should show willingness that they’re ready for that, while judges should show it is ready to do their job independently. That is the message sent by the EU Delegation’s Head, Ambassador David Geer, in an interview with MIA. According to him, the Delegation is carefully following developments related to the Judicial Council, openly talks about them, and is concerned.

“What’s the obligation of the Judicial Council? It is to protect the independence, professionalism, and integrity of judges, but some of the developments within the Council show the Council cannot do that. So, as a sign of our concern, because this organ is key when it comes to the rule of law, we’ve decided to send a peer review mission,” Geer notes.
