President Stevo Pendarovski’s meeting on Thursday with the US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, focused on Skopje’s EU path. Washington expects the country to continue the road towards full-fledged EU membership.
Pendarovski underlined the importance of US support for North Macedonia’s achievement of its strategic goals. There was also a discussion on the next steps that the country’s required to take to make progress on the integration path. When it comes to the domestic political scene, the stands have remained unchanged. According to PM Dimitar Kovacevski, placing thesis about a world conspiracy doesn’t benefit the country and its citizens at all, that is, it only benefits the political career of the person saying that.
On the other hand, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski stated that the Government’s inability to deliver on its promises was now forcing it to beg the international community for pressure to be exerted on VMRO-DPMNE. “At a potential leaders’ meeting, there can be a discussion only on early elections,” the opposition leader stressed.
