Opening of chapters from Cluster 1 as soon as possible with North Macedonia and Albania once they meet conditions, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced after the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Brussels on Wednesday. The EU’s message is that it wants to speed up integration of the region and will get ready for new enlargement that has to be merit-based.
European Council President Charles Michel said from the Summit, an optimistic message had been sent that there was a greater common wish for enlargement, which was being taken seriously. It was confirmed in Brussels that opening chapters with Skopje was only possible through adoption of the constitutional changes.
According to PM Dimitar Kovacevski, if all political actors in North Macedonia shared the ruling coalition’s stand, today, the situation would have been different.
