Due to health reasons, former Karpos Mayor Stevco Jakimovski was issued on Tuesday a house arrest measure. He’s been charged with abuse of official position during a procedure to resell state-owned construction land. The Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organised Crime had requested a detention measure. Jakimovski’s passport will be taken away. Jakimovski’s lawyer, Viktor Cvetkovski, said he would appeal the decision. Nine people are covered in the case. A precaution measure has been issued for one of his associates, V.S. For the other associate, T.G., the same measure exists in the Toplik case. Therefore, he hasn’t been issued one in the current process. VMRO-DPMNE criticised the developments. According to the President of the party, Hristijan Mickoski, the arrest represents brutal political pressure and expression of huge level of fear before the presidential elections. “It’s obvious that arrests are Zaevism’s campaign, but that shows at the same time that Zaev is dramatically losing among the people,” he said. VMRO-DPMNE Vice President Vlado Misajlovski described the arrest as political persecution. In response, SDSM said everyone was equal before the laws. The developments were criticised also by the VMRO-DPMNE’s presidential candidate, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova. “The way you’re headed, there will be no opposition politicians…and you will then be asking Tsipras to send you some,” she tweeted. In response to her comments, SDSM said the candidate had once again put herself in defence of crime and criminals. “Siljanovska cannot be on the side of the law and justice because she is on the criminals’ side,” the ruling party stated. Jakimovski himself reacted, that is, while he was being taken to the Criminal Court’s new building, he stated: “We will win, we’re not afraid of you.” It remains unknown who he was referring to.
