Former Macedonian PM Ljubco Georgievski came out with a controversial plan on social networks, which explains in 5 points how Macedonia should overcome its bilateral issues with Bulgaria. Namely, Georgievski believes that Macedonia should focus on and do the following things in order to overcome the issues with Bulgaria: to provide guarantees that it has no territorial pretentions towards the Pirin region in Bulgaria, to provide guarantee that they will not support in any manner the organisations in Bulgaria that demand recognition of Macedonian minority, the Bulgarian Parliament should adopt declaration according to which the Macedonian nation and language officially exist since 1944 and not before, the Macedonian-Bulgarian commission should change the strategy and work towards mutual recognition of historical events and figures shared between the two countries and for Macedonia to eliminate from history school books all content offensive towards Bulgaria and the Bulgarian people and recognition of revolutionists Goce Delcev, Dame Gruev and others as Bulgarian, and ultimately Macedonia should give concession over the railroad towards Bulgaria to the Bulgarian government entirely so that they can finish the project. This plan of Georgievski’s provoked numerous negative reactions, and both SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE condemned his plan, saying it is anti-national and anti-Macedonian, while Bulgarian MEP Andrey Kovatchev welcomed and praised Georgievski’s plan.
