The German Government has officially approved the accession of Macedonia in NATO under the name “Republic of North Macedonia”. From the German Government they inform that this will be a very important contribution to the security in the area covered by NATO member-states. “The German Government will work on sooner accession of North Macedonia in NATO. The country plays a rather constructive role in the area of the West Balkans, which was recently proven by its actions for change of the constitutional name of the state,” said the German Government’s Spokesperson Steffen Seibert. In meantime, the Spokesperson of the Greek Government Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said in a press conference on Thursday that the Greek parliament is to ratify the Protocol for Accession of North Macedonia in NATO in the following days. NATO Sec Gen Jens Stoltenberg in the meantime, expressed hope that all NATO member-states will ratify the Protocol. “By becoming a NATO member, North Macedonia will contribute to the peace and stability of the region,” Stoltenberg said.
