The Government of Macedonia announced that the party leaders’ meeting scheduled for Friday between PM Zoran Zaev, along with VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski, DUI leader Ali Ahmeti, Besa leader Bilall Kasami and AA leader Ziadin Sela has officially been cancelled. “Unfortunately, Mickoski decided to not attend the meeting. He decided to not discuss possible resolutions for current issues we need to overcome to take our country closer to start of the membership negotiations with the EU. Instead of focusing on the progress of the country, Mickoski decided to keep on defending the crimes of the former VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski. By calling the party leaders for a meeting, PM Zaev showed dedication and readiness to discuss any issue for the good of the state,” writes the announcement of the government. Commenting on the cancellation of the party leaders’ meeting, PM Zaev said in a press conference he had to cancel the meeting because there were no proper conditions for meeting. “VMRO-DPMNE and Hristijan Mickoski refused to attend the meeting without providing any solid argument for that. We would not take any ultimatums from politicians trying to trade out protection for someone else’s crimes, and putting the party interests before the state ones,” Zaev said.
