Government Decides on Election Advertising Before End of State of Emergency

Late Monday night, the government passed amendments to the Decree that intervened in the rules for paid political advertising for political parties. After AVMU interpreted that BESA cannot be considered as opposition party, given that it is in a pre-election coalition with SDSM, now the government has adopted amendments to the law with which the largest political party from the opposition cannot use more than half of the time determined for the opposition, or more precisely 3 minutes in real time. The Government says it has decided not to favour any of the parties. The government’s decree stipulates that from Wednesday (24 June) to 12 July, the political advertising of the televisions will be broadcast in the daily program. However, according to the Association of Information and Communication Technologies at the Economic Chamber of Macedonia this Decree adopted by the Government only temporarily postponed the problem of retransmission of television channels.
