Government Withdraws Gender Reassignment Law

Without announcement and explanation, the Government withdrew from the parliamentary procedure the draft Law on Civil Registry, which would enable a declarative change of gender in personal documents with a notary statement. The discussion in the Parliament regarding these proposed changes did not even start, and VMRO-DPMNE reacted that they open Pandora’s Box. The Ministry of Justice, which is the proposer, says that the Law is being withdrawn due to its harmonization with other laws, as well as with the process of digitalization and interoperability, but not in the part for legal recognition of gender, which actually caused the most public reactions.
