In an interview for the Macedonian Informative Agency (MIA), the EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn says that Macedonia needs no parliamentary election at present time. “Now that the Parliament adopted the Prespa Agreement and the process is to be taken over by the Greek side, the country should use the newly created positive momentum for implementing the necessary reforms in order to fulfil all conditions necessary for starting negotiations for EU membership. The decision for holding an early parliamentary election is a sovereign one, but in my opinion this election at this time would be quite unnecessary thing to do. The resolution of the name issue with Greece is not the only condition for your country to become EU member-state; there is more to be done, more reforms need to be implemented, and a parliamentary election may only have bad influence on that process,” Hahn says.
