Initiative 8 Starts

“Today’s first ministerial meeting marks the start of Initiative 8, which, in addition to transport and energy connectivity along Corridor VIII, will serve also as a political platform,”

Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said at Thursday’s press-conference in Brindisi, Italy, together with the counterparts of the countries that are part of the cooperation, Italy’s Antonio Tajani, Bulgaria’s Mariya Gabriel, and Albania’s Olta Xhacka, at which the Initiative’s main contours were presented.

As Osmani added, that political platform will provide advancement of mutual cooperation and intensification of the political, economic, security, cultural, and social exchange between the four countries. The close cooperation with EU members Italy and Bulgaria will be very important to Skopje and Tirana, he assessed. “This initiative is in direction also of what we pledge for as a country, more integration before membership,” Osmani noted.
