Judge Osman Shabani announced on Tuesday at the Criminal Court in Skopje the verdict the court reached over the Toplik case. In the verdict, the court found former Transport and Communications Minister Mile Janakieski guilty for abuse of official position for activities around the Sun City project for construction of housing complex in the Municipality of Sopiste, and for that he has been sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison. The other defendants got suspended prison sentences ranging between 2 and 3 years. According to the bill of indictment for this case, Janakieski violated the Law on Public Procurements by assembling a commission for public bidding for plots of land for construction of the project Sun City, instructing the members about which company they should choose, even though the company in question did not have all the necessary documentation to apply for the project. With these activities, Janakieski and the other defendants damaged the state budget for 1.04 million euros.
