Electing a chief of any public prosecutor’s office nominated by political parties, including the opposition, is a solution that opens a door to politicize the public prosecutor’s system, the members of the Council in charge of implementation of the Judicial Reform Strategy, after the 13th session, held on Friday. As it was said in the press-release, Justice Minister Renata Deskoska informed about several issues, including criteria for election of prosecutors. “A procedure in which political parties, that is, the opposition would nominate a public prosecutor can discourage quality prosecutors applying for the competition for a head of the prosecutor’s office. As a result, the Council recommends for no exception to be made for any public prosecutor’s office and for the constitutional principle of the Council of Public Prosecutors electing chiefs of public prosecutor’s offices to be kept,” it said.
