MEP Kyuchyuk Pays Official Visit to Macedonia

Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and Rapporteur for Macedonia Ilhan Kyuchyuk started his official visit to Macedonia on Wednesday. Kyuchyuk was welcomed by Foreign Affairs Minister Bujar Osmani, with whom he held the first meeting and press conference of the day. At the meeting, Osmani and Kyuchyuk discussed the processes for accession of Macedonia in the EU and the upcoming voting in the European Parliament for the draft-resolution for the progress of Macedonia. “We expect positive outcome of the voting, because North Macedonia has accomplished so much and deserves proper recognition for those successes,” Osmani said. According to Kyuchyuk, historical matters should be left to historians to discuss, but still accented the importance of good bilateral relations for the process of EU-integration. “Good relations between neighbours are an important segment of each framework for accession of a country in the EU. We need to reinstate trust in the dialogue. Historians should deal with historical affairs, and politicians should make decisions, and not hide problems under the rug and then blame it all on historians,” Kyuchyuk said. On Wednesday, Kyuchyuk also held meeting with several state officials, among them being PM Zoran Zaev, President Stevo Pendarovski and Deputy PM for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov, as well as VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski.
