Metropolitan Petar Attacks Feminism and Gender Equality

Metropolitan Petar of Prespa and Pelagonija, in his Orthodox Easter message, has fiercely attacked feminism, describing gender equality as distorted. In his view, until the appearance of the movement, women had been housewives, while they are now emancipated, yet more and more divorced. He states that in addition to the rights women fight for, they have also a duty to be ethical. “In the past centuries, until feminism and emancipation of women, they had been wives, mothers, housewives. Today, they are highly emancipated with noticeable positions in society, yet often they are also divorced and single mothers. When someone demands more or greater rights, they should be aware, ready, and able to perform more duties,” the Metropolitan points out.
