“It is becoming clear that the government led by Zaev, instead of being statistical, sees the census as a political operation that is a coalition agreement and is outside the standards of the European Union. The government politicizes the census on two grounds. First, the government officials themselves started citing percentages and what percentage should be for the census to be recognized or unrecognized and secondly, the government saw that on Zaev’s directive it rejected the civic initiative of VMRO-DPMNE to collect signatures for annulment of this non-European Census Law. With that, Zaev’s government shows that they are afraid of citizen signatures because Zaev and his ministers are very aware that the vast majority of citizens in Macedonia doubt that this census will be a political forgery instead of a reliable statistic,” stated Antonio Milososki, Member of the EC of VMRO-DPMNE during the press-conference announcing that the collection of signatures against the census by the party has begun.
