Mitsotakis: Prespa Agreement Has Errors, We Want Good Relations with Skopje

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an interview for Greek TV Antenna that the Prespa Agreement contains certain errors which, according to him, can no longer be corrected. “My criticism levelled towards the Prespa Agreement was not about the country’s name, but the registration of the Macedonian language and the Macedonian ethnicity, which I continue to believe is a serious error. Still, since the contract was concluded, we have all the necessary reasons to strive to build good relations with North Macedonia, because at the moment Greece is becoming one of the main protagonists on the energetics map of the Balkans. Now, the process for accession of our north neighbours in the EU should start sooner, because then Greece will be able to pressure for full implementation and respect of the agreement, so that we can treat the eventual liabilities in it within the legal framework. It would’ve been very easy for me to claim in my pre-electoral campaign that I’d annul the Prespa Agreement, but I am a serious politician who is aware that such international agreements cannot be changed,” Mitsotakis said.
