Mitsotakis: We Expect Intergovernmental Conferences to Be Convened Soon

We expect the first EU intergovernmental conferences with North Macedonia and Albania to be convened soon, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in Sofia at a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Kiril Petkov, adding that Greece’s position in times of growing tensions is the only right path in favour of all is the movement of the Western Balkans towards the EU. “First of all, the most important thing is good neighbourliness. We expect intergovernmental conferences with the Republic of North Macedonia and Albania to be convened soon,” Mitsotakis stressed, emphasizing that Greece, which ‘has always been a lever for the region’s progress, expects support from Bulgaria for this common goal’. Mitsotakis, who is visiting Sofia, stressed that Greece and Bulgaria are not only neighbours, but also allies and partners that respect international law, and that a strategic partnership between them is key to the region’s stability.
