MoFA Will Not Declare Russian Ambassador Persona Non Grata

North Macedonia has no plans to declare Russia’s ambassador to Skopje persona non grata as a retaliatory measure after Russia released a list of hostile countries that condemned Moscow’s military intervention and backed Ukraine. Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani says that for now there is no basis for the Russian ambassador to be declared a persona non grata. “It is not a violation of sufficient level for the ambassador to be declared a persona non grata,” Osmani told TV21. Such calls to the public became louder after the Russian Embassy announced on Twitter that it was ‘monitoring citizens and investigating the presence of Russophobia’ before showing a list of countries that Putin considers hostile to Russia, its companies, and its citizens. The head of the Macedonian diplomacy, however, announced that North Macedonia will adhere to the sanctions and all measures that will be agreed with the EU regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
