According to VMRO-DPMNE, the Government should immediately withdraw the Census Draft Law from Parliament, which should then be followed by political and societal consensus. As opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski said on Wednesday, if that doesn’t happen, there will be a citizens’ initiative to collect signatures to annul the law. VMRO-DPMNE’s Executive Committee’s conclusion is that though a census process is needed, it should be a statistical operation, not a political one. The party is still insistent on the inclusion of fingerprints in the process. On the other hand, SDSM stated that there had to be trust in the State Statistical Office. The need for a census is essential and relies on four recommendations and regulations of the UN, according to the ruling party. MP Snezana Kaleska-Vanceva said VMRO-DPMNE obviously had contradictory stands.
