Health Minister Venko Filipce announced at a press conference that the healthcare authorities are not considering introduction of additional measures against the spreading of COVID-19. “The Infectious Diseases Committee concluded that the current measures are sufficient for keeping the situation under control. Still, we proceed to follow the situation very carefully. We face great pressures in Skopje, where departments at some of the clinics are once again transformed into COVID centres, since there is a gradual increase of the number of new COVID-19 cases in the past 4 weeks,” Filipce said. In Meantime, PM Zoran Zaev announced that the first batch of vaccines from AstraZeneca are to arrive in Macedonia via the COVAX mechanism on 31 March. “We are to receive two batches, the first one on 31 March containing 33,600 doses, while the rest of the 100,800 vaccines we procured via this mechanism are expected to arrive 15 days after the first batch. We also expect 200,000 vaccines from China, with assistance from the Chinese Embassy in our country. Citizens should apply for vaccination at the web site vakcinacija.mk,” Zaev said. The information for the vaccines was also confirmed by World Health Organisation Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge, who said that Macedonia not only procured vaccines from the COVAX system, but also managed to complete all necessary financial and administrative procedures, and that he is in constant contact with Filipce concerning the delivery of the vaccines.
