OSCE/ODIHR to Monitor Local Elections

OSCE/ODIHR on Tuesday launched its observation mission for the local elections scheduled for 17 October, in specific circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the first time in these elections, reding fingerprints will be applied, for which, as reported by the Mission, they have already inspected several of these terminals at a meeting at the State Election Commission. The head of the mission, Tana De Zulueta, informed at a press conference that the mission consists of a basic team of 13 experts based in Skopje and 20 long-term observers, who will be deployed in the country starting 15 September. The ODIHR also plans to ask OSCE states to send 250 short-term observers, who would arrive a few days before election day.
