Osmani: Boycott Main Reason for Low Response to Census by Citizens in Diaspora

Foreign Affairs Minister Bujar Osmani said at a briefing with journalists that the calls for boycott of the 2021 Population Census resulted with low response by the citizens in the diaspora in specific countries. “Our diplomats informed us in the very beginning of the statistical operation that unfortunately, the calls for boycott are rather effective in several countries, especially among our citizens living in the US, Australia and Canada, and the effects of that boycott are reflected in the final results of the Census. Our diplomatic missions in European countries managed to cover up all our citizens in those countries, but for example in Australia and Canada it is far more difficult, since we only have one embassy in those countries which have rather vast territories,” Osmani said.
