“Bulgaria has the right to veto, but six months is too long a period in the context of the region,” said Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, commenting on the position of the new Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov. He points out that the decisions for EU enlargement are made by consensus among the members, as well as that the country’s position is principled and many countries of the EU support it. “Six months is too long a period in the context in which the region finds itself. There are many open questions. I think that such period does not suit us. We should sit down with Petkov and talk about what that period means. Such an approach should have been used long time ago. The first intergovernmental conference is no different from others. There was no need to hold the entire region hostage,” Osmani said.
