Foreign Affairs Minister Bujar Osmani announced at a press conference that North Macedonia has officially become part of the trilateral presidency with OSCE, or the so-called OSCE Troika, which includes the present (Poland), previous (Sweden) and succeeding (North Macedonia) Chairmanships of the organisation. “Preparations for our takeover of the OSCE Chairmanship in 2023 are in full swing. Today, we take over the presidency of the Group of Mediterranean Partners, including Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia, which means that it is up to us to organise the conference between OSCE with the Mediterranean Partners. The takeover of the presidency over OSCE for us represent a process of transformation from consumers to creators and contributors to policies on international level,” Osmani said. He went on to explain that the opposition in the Parliament obstructs the adoption of law-changes that would allow diplomats to go to the OSCE mission in Vienna to work with the other diplomats from the OSCE Troika till the final takeover of the Chairmanship in 2023. “In order to do this, we first need the Parliament to adopt the Draft-changes to the Law on Foreign Affairs. The current regulation states that diplomats must first work at least 24 months in the Foreign Affairs Ministry before being sent to diplomatic missions abroad. We filed the draft-changes, but the opposition led by VMRO-DPMNE filed 180 amendments to them, with sole purpose to block the entire process,” Osmani added.
