Osmani: Resolution of Disputes with Bulgaria Not Condition for EU Accession

Foreign Affairs Minister Bujar Osmani said at a press conference on Monday that the bilateral disputes between Macedonia and Bulgaria should be resolved sooner, but that they should not be upgraded into a condition for Macedonia’s accession in the EU. “Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi insist on sooner resolution of the disputes, because in the EU all decisions are reached only witch consensus by all member-states, and processes cannot move forward until Bulgaria approves it. Hence, I believe that is the context of the messages for our integration in the EU, that a consensus is necessary, not that the resolution of the dispute is a condition of our integration,” Osmani said. He also added that there are no new moments or details in the negotiations with Bulgaria, saying that at the moment both sides should focus more on segments of the issues that can be resolved faster and more efficient.
