Parents Stage Protests Against Educational Reforms

Parents of primary school students held protests in Skopje and several other cities in Macedonia, at which they expressed opposition towards the new reforms in the educational system that foresee introduction of electronic schoolbooks for students in 4th grade. “This is the voice of the parents, calling for politics and politicians to keep their hands off our children and their future. We demand organisation of a referendum at which the citizens will have their say about these reforms in the educational system. Digitalisation of schoolbooks will only bring more problems in the education system,” said Dragana Spasevska from the initiative “We Must Have Textbooks and Lessons”. From the Education Ministry however, they evaluated the protests as absurd, adding that the reforms will only improve education.
