The Parliamentary Committee on Culture adopted in first reading the Draft-Law on Use of
Macedonian Language. Culture Minister Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojcevska informed that the
new law was prepared by the Ministry of Culture and by the Council for Macedonian
Language, after they concluded that the current law is not well applied in practice. “The
adoption of this new law will increase the number of areas in which the standard variant of
the Macedonian language is in use, which will oblige all institutions of the state to employ
licenced proofreaders, which will proofread all official documents and announcements
created by the institutions. The law also includes programmes for endorsement of university
studies in Macedonian language and literature,” said Culture Minister Kostadinovska-
Stojcevska.
