VMRO-DPMNE MP Dragan Kovacki said on Tuesday that the “Zajas clan” had a network of major businesses in the biggest state-strategic project, skilfully hidden behind “out-and-out players” and notable companies. “Drin Ahmeti, together with another company from the Zajas clan, about which we will talk about in the coming days, is included in construction of Corridor VIII,” he added, stressing that the two companies’ contract for excavation and other construction works was worth 1.3 million euros. In response, Drin Ahmeti refuted Kovacki’s accusations, saying such “false claims” harmed Thor Industries and his personal reputation. Thor Industries said it was asking for a public apology by Kovacki and his party. The same day, GROM leader Stevco Jakimovski said though he agreed that Drin Ahmeti should explain the origin of his capital, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski, too, should do the same. As he explained, according to the ESM head’s job description, hydro power plants should be built and there should be electricity supply, “but plants for the country and the people, not for oneself”. VMRO-DPMNE responded that Jakimovski’s comments had been ordered by PM Dimitar Kovacevski and his father. When it comes to SDSM, what’s most important is to close the Phoenix case, which concerns the Skopje 2014 project. “Through this case alone, as many as 57 million euros in taxpayer money were abused, according to the charge,” SDSM said.
