“The Western Balkans face serious challenges in terms of its European integration aspirations. The stalemate in European integration frustrates the citizens, a stable Western Balkans requires a breakthrough, and we are ready for a constructive dialogue with Bulgaria,” said President Stevo Pendarovski in his 15-minute address to the 76th United Nations General Assembly in New York. “It is high time we reconsidered the current phase of the largest continental project since World War II, the idea of a united, free and peaceful Europe. Is the current status of European integration in the region in line with the vision conceived by its founders decades ago? If we want a stable and prosperous Western Balkans as an important link in continental and transcontinental stability and security, we must understand that a breakthrough in terms of its European integration is urgently needed,” he adds.
