Pendarovski: Bulgaria Cannot Interfere in Our Internal Affairs

President Stevo Pendarovski said on Tuesday that the demand by official Sofia for North Macedonia to register the citizens of Bulgarian ethnicity in the Constitution is interference in the internal affairs of the country. “There are Macedonians in Bulgaria, but we as a state cannot interfere and aid their rights there. In accordance with all international laws and the Charter of the United Nations, we cannot make such interference. They are Macedonian by ethnicity, but are Bulgarian by citizenship, and Bulgaria is responsible for their human rights. The same way this is applied for the Macedonians in Bulgaria, it should also be applied for Bulgarians in North Macedonia, i.e. official Sofia cannot interfere in our internal affairs about whether we should enlist the Bulgarians in our constitution or not,” Pendarovski said.
